Wine Overview
Bodegas Abanico Mudo Monastrell is a red wine made from 100% Monastrell grapes, grown on the clay-limestone soils typical of the Alicante DO. Vines aged over 40 years contribute concentration and aromatic complexity.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep, almost black-purple hue with violet highlights.
Nose
Intense aromas of dark red and black fruits (blackberry, blueberry), complemented by sweet spices, a hint of liquorice, and subtle vanilla notes from oak aging.
Palate
Fleshy entry, silky tannins, and balanced structure. Ripe fruit flavors are enhanced by vibrant freshness and subtle notes of black pepper and caramelized spices. Long, persistent finish.
Winemaking and Aging
Grapes are carefully sorted at harvest. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 6 to 8 months of aging in French and American oak barrels to add finesse and complexity.
Food Pairings
• Grilled red meats or meats in sauce
• Spanish charcuterie (chorizo, Iberian ham)
• Aged cheeses (Manchego, mature Gouda)
• Spiced Mediterranean dishes (moussaka, lamb tagine)
The Alicante DO Terroir
Located on Spain’s southeastern coast, the Alicante DO enjoys a hot, dry Mediterranean climate with long, sunny summers and mild winters. Soils low in organic matter concentrate flavors within the fruit.
Serving Suggestions
Serve between 16°C and 18°C in a large Bordeaux-style glass. Allow the wine to breathe for 30 minutes before tasting to fully release its aromas.
