Château Prieuré-Lichine Margaux
Sometimes capricious, always generous, this year the weather will once again have played the troublemaker in a thrilling scenario with a grandiose outcome.
The winter of 15-16 was rather mild and generous in water. Spring, in ten-year averages in terms of temperatures and precipitation, allows regular growth of the vines with significant cryptomatic pressure. The vigilance and reactivity of the teams ensure the protection of the vineyard against the strong pressure of mildew, and more specifically this year from powdery mildew.
The month of June experienced a significant rainy episode without consequences for prayer. We will have to wait until September 13, i.e. 2 full months, to find such a volume of
hastily. Indeed, with July and August being very dry (-80% water), the grapes grew little and veraison was sluggish. The gravelly terroirs, particularly draining,
will show symptoms of strong water stress, worrying for the harvest and even the sustainability of young vines.
On September 13, a hoped-for and feared storm arrived: 40 mm and fortunately no damage. a godsend to relaunch our vignettes. Two other rainy episodes in September and
Mid-October will allow juicy grapes to mature, allowing each sector to express its full potential.
The vinification takes place calmly, revealing exceptional colors and reasonable alcohol levels.
The wines are balanced, dense and elegant with slightly higher acidity than 2015, a guarantee of harmonious aging potential.
The trilogy 2014, 2015, 2016 at Preuré-Lichine revives memories of that of 1988 to 1990 with wines very identity of their terroir and their vintage.
Gourmet and classic, the Grand Vin de Prieuré-Lichine fully expresses the values of its terroir with the elegance, finesse and class that characterize the great wines of Margaux.
